History about Gare du Nord

This station was mainly established by Leonce Reynaud; however, the construction was completed by various Roadway and Bridge Engineers. The model of this largest train station was proposed by a German-born French architect, Jacques Ignace Hittorff. Note that, they first demolished the old railway station in the year 1860 and the construction for the new one continued up to 1865.

Later, in 1884, they added five more tracks to this station to manage increased railway traffic. The expansion doesn’t end with this, they attached suburban rail lines to the eastern side of the station in 1889, and some expansion was also carried out in the year 1930 and 1960.

Gare du Nord railway station has 23 female statues that represents famous destinations like Frankfurt, Brussels, Vienna, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Berlin, London, and Paris. It consists of a glass train shed and a large central hall.
